Db Copy did not contain all elements of it original....Why?

Recently I faced this problem which was kind of unique for me. Something probably most of you would have faced. Since my aim in this whole initiative was to maintain a memoir of all the peculiar behaviors observed during the course of my professional life, no matter how lame it might seem so I decided to put it on paper.

I have a database, on which I have Manager Access through a group. I wanted a copy of the database on the local. So I added my name explicitly in ACL with Manager Access and created a copy of the database.

I opened the local copy and clicked on a particular outline entry, it threw an error 'Invalid or nonexistent document'. In the original database, this would open a view.

The error is generally thrown when a particular view by that name doesn't exist in the database. To my surprise I found that the view in the question was not found in the database. A little more investigation and brainstorming with my colleagues revealed the reason behind it. The view had a security constraint. In the Security tab of the view, the check box for 'Who may use this view' was unchecked and a few roles had the checks against it, which means that only people with the specified roles can read or see or use this view. I applied the same roles to my ACL entry in the original database and then created a copy. I could see these views copied in the new copy.

So, next time when u find that your copy of database doesn't have few design elements, please look for the security settings.
